Year 6

The Year 6 teachers are:

  • Miss A Knowles (Head of Year 6)

  • Miss L Neale

  • Miss R Arnold

  • Mrs Seddon

  • Mr S Thomas

The following teachers also teach in Year 6:

  • Miss J Horlock (English)

  • Mr G Woolley (Mathematics)

  • Mrs M Collins (Mathematics)

Pupils will also be supported in all areas of the curriculum by the teaching assistants in the year group.

In Year 6 we provide regular weekly homework in Mathematics and English.

  • Mathematics: set – Monday/Tuesday, due – Thursday

  • English: set Thursday/Friday, due – Monday

Although homework is not set every day your child should spend about 30 minutes on homework each night as they will always have reading to do, spellings to learn and times tables to practise, Mathletics. MyMaths or SPAG.com to use.

There may also be homework set occasionally in other subjects or home learning projects. Please help your child to plan their homework and provide a suitable place for them, using the home school diary and support us in reinforcing the importance and value of completing it on time.

Your child should always have a reading book with them in school - a book from home, from the library or, in a few cases, a book loaned from our reading scheme that is appropriate to their ability. We encourage pupils to read every night, even if only for a few minutes, and would appreciate your help with this. We also ask parent/carers to sign their child’s home school diary at least 3 times every week, to show they have listened to them read.

In Year 6 we insist on high standards of behaviour and believe it is important to work with parents/carers to achieve this. If your child is involved in a severe behavioural incident or continues to disrupt a class on a regular basis then you will be informed.  Experience has shown that problems are more likely to be solved successfully when parents and teachers work together and we appreciate your support!
